A Farmgirl's Dabbles Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

Published December 12, 2020

Growing up, I remember homemade peanut butter kiss cookies — also named “peanut butter blossoms.” These cookies were a treat all-year-round, though they were especially popular for holiday cookie platters.

With Christmas quickly approaching, I decided to make a peanut butter kiss recipe. While there are simple recipes that call for 3 ingredients (like peanut butter, sugar, and egg) — I wanted a recipe which most closely recreated the peanut butter cookies I had as a kid.

So for this week’s blog, I’m following A Farmgirl’s Dabbles recipe for peanut butter kiss cookies.

Ingredients for Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

If you like to bake, you probably have these ingredients on hand from other dessert recipes you’ve made. The only ingredient I had to go to the store for is the most iconic part of these cookies — the Hersey kisses!

How to Make Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies

Tools for this Dish

  • Large bowl

  • Electric mixer and rubber spatula (for additional mixing)

  • Measuring cups and spoons

  • Cookie sheet and teaspoon

Cooking Notes

Peanut Butter Kiss Cookie Dough

I followed the baking process as I’ve done with other cookie recipes, and creamed my butter and sugar first. Then, I heated my peanut butter slightly to make it easier to remove from the measuring cup.

I switched from the electric mixer to folding the dry ingredients by hand. I get a better sense of my dough’s consistency this way. Feel free to use your electric mixer the entire time to form your dough.

Measuring the Dough

I used a quarter of a tablespoon when I first scooped my cookie dough. These cookies baked wider and thinner than traditional peanut butter kiss cookies.

I recommend forming your cookie dough into small balls — a little less than a teaspoon, as these will bake into the classic peanut butter cookie shape.

My cookie dough was a bit tacky as I rolled the dough into balls. Don’t worry — as you coat the dough in sugar, it will become easier to shape.

Adding the Hershey Kiss

I pushed the Hershey kisses into the cookie as soon as they were out of the oven. You can transfer your finished cookies from the cookie sheet to a wire rack to cool.

A Farmgirl’s Dabbles said that you could place the cookies in the freezer for a few minutes if you want the Hershey kiss to harden. I prefer the warm texture of cookies fresh from the oven, even if the Hersey kiss became soft and melty, so I let mine cool at room temperature.

The Final Product

Even after sitting on the counter all day, these peanut butter kiss cookies were tender and delicious. They’re not overly sweet, and the peanut butter and brown sugar shine through. If you like your cookies hot from the oven, enjoy the melty Hershey kiss in the middle.

Recipe Score

I would give A Farmgirl’s Dabbles peanut butter kiss cookies a 10/10 for the following:

  • Recipe Level

    • Easy: You’ll create your peanut butter kiss cookie dough in one bowl. You can use an electric mixer or combine by hand. You can’t go wrong with the order of mixing your ingredients.

  • Ingredients

    • All of the ingredients for this peanut butter cookie recipe can be found at your local grocery store. If you bake often, you probably already have everything on hand to get started.

  • Prep

    • Preheat your oven and leave your butter (and peanut butter), at room temperature.

  • Flavor

    • 10/10: A Farmgirl’s Dabbles’ recipe is just as I remember the peanut butter cookies from my childhood. They’re crumbly right from the oven and tender as they cool to room temperature.
